What is Hot Melt Adhesive?

Hot melt adhesive are activated by heat to create strong bonds. At room temperature, these adhesives are solid and non-sticky, but when heated, they melt and become adhesive. This property makes them environmentally friendly bonding agents, as they do not require solvents or produce harmful fumes.

Hot melt adhesives can be used to bond a variety of materials, including fabrics, plastics, and metals. Their versatility makes them suitable for a wide range of applications, from clothing and textiles to industrial and packaging solutions. This adaptability ensures that hot melt adhesives meet the needs of diverse industries, providing reliable and efficient bonding solutions.

Hot Melt Adhesive Films vs. Webs

Hot melt adhesive films are thin layers of adhesive material that exist as a solid film at room temperature. These films provide a strong bond when heated and are particularly robust compared to hot melt adhesive webs. However, the increased bonding strength of the films can reduce the breathability of the final product, making them less suitable for applications where airflow is important.

Hot melt adhesive webs, on the other hand, are created by melting adhesive materials and extruding them into a spider web-like structure using a melt-blown process. This structure resembles non-woven fabric. The web structure of hot melt adhesive webs offers a lightweight and breathable adhesive solution. This makes them ideal for applications where flexibility and airflow are essential, such as in textiles and certain industrial uses. While they may not provide as strong a bond as hot melt adhesive films, their ability to maintain breathability makes them preferable for specific applications.
